The Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that in observance of Filipino-American History Month, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. turned over the coffeetable book "SLIM: Salvacion Lim Higgins, Philippine Haute Couture 1947-1990" to the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of American History represented by Deputy Chair and Curator Lisa Kathleen Graddy of the Division of Political History last October 24 at the Embassy.
The Ambassador was joined by former Foreign Affairs Secretary and former Philippine Ambassador to Germany Delia Domingo-Albert who represented the Higgins Family.
Salvacion Lim Higgins or SLIM was a celebrated Filipina designer known for her bold and timeless designs. Her work helped define modern Philippine couture.
One of her creations was a gown of former US First Lady Mamie Eisenhower which was a gift during a state visit by former Philippine President Carlos P. Garcia. The gown now belongs to the collection of the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of American History.
